Funeral Prayers to Comfort You

I believe that angels are quiet friends who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly…

Peace Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Here is a Lovely Prayer for a Funeral

Our Father in heaven, we thank you that, through Jesus Christ, you have given us the gift of eternal life.
Keep us firm in the faith, that nothing can separate us from your love.
When we lose someone who is dear to us, help us to receive your comfort and to share it with one another.
We thank you for what you have given us through XXXX.
We now entrust ourselves to you, just as we are, with our sense of loss and of guilt,
When the time has come, let us depart in peace, and see you face to face, for you are the God of our salvation

or you could include this Funeral Prayer

God, we thank you for the life that you give us.
It is full of work and of responsibility, of sorrow and joy.
Today we thank you for XXXX, for what he has given and received.
Help us in our mourning and teach us to live for the living in the time that is still left to us.
Thank you for eternal life that can give light and joy to our days and years already here on earth.
God, we thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ.
Help us to see that it is he who opens the gate to the life that shall never die.

Catholic Funeral Prayer

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen

Funeral Prayer of Comfort for Loved Ones

Father,

Give them peace in their minds and comfort in their hearts.

Let your Holy Angels minister to their spirit. Lord, you are the lifter up of their heads at a time like this, Lord you said when our hearts are overwhelmed lead them to the rock that is higher than they are, the Rock Christ Jesus. Father, when they go in the inside of themselves let them see your face. Let them find strength in your faithfulness, Jesus.

Lord, show them your compassion, Jesus send fresh mercy and fresh grace to help them pass this sad hour. You are the everlasting comforter, you are the sweet Saviour of our soul, and by your grace "this too shall pass". You said cast all our cares upon you for you care for them. You will never leave them nor forsake them. Bring the family through as only you can, Lord.

You have our tears in a bottle and our name is written in your hand, so we know that you love and will comfort us. Let us examine ourselves because you said in your word "that it's appointed up man to die, then the judgement. Lord so let your family know that all is well and they shall see their loved one again, In Jesus name,

Amen

The Irish have a wonderful way of looking at life and death. I hope you feel comfort in their words.

Irish Funeral Prayer

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm on your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

God saw you getting tired,
and a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
and whispered "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly
we could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Irish Funeral Blessings

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal
Love leaves a memory no one can steal

May your neighbours respect you
Trouble neglect you
The angels protect you
And heaven accept you

Death is nothing else but going home to God, the bond of love will be unbroken for all eternity ~ Mother Teresa

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me. ~ Psalm 23:4
