Wedding Flower Ideas

Deciding on your wedding flowers is paramount to tying in your wedding colors and themes.

It is important to keep in mind what time of year you have scheduled your wedding as this will determine which flowers are available. The summer months will provide the largest range of flowers; however, autumn and winter can offer up some more unusual and interesting choices.

You do not always have to use a lot of flowers to create a beautiful arrangement. Sometimes half a dozen expensive flowers arranged with more greenery can be more stunning than a dozen cheaper flowers.

When choosing a florist, it is important that you browse through their portfolio to so their previous work and to identify what you like and don't like in your flower arrangements. It is a good way to inspire your own creativity.

It is also a good way to get a rough idea of the cost of flowers for your wedding. This is a very expensive time for you as a couple and you may need to adjust your requirements to fit your budget. Most florists can give you a price for a wedding package that includes the bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, groom and best man boutonnieres, and flowers for your wedding reception venue. Don't be tempted to go for cheap flowers, instead just cut down on the number that you'll need, to help meet your budget.

Your florist will also be able to give you some ideas for decorating the location for your wedding ceremony and reception and give suggestions as to styles.  They'll probably have photos or samples of their work showing typical flower arrangements that will give you ideas of what you would like on your special day.

Do It Yourself Wedding Flowers

If you wish to cut out the florist completely, then you can learn to make your own wedding flowers. You can save some of the cost by going directly to a flower wholesaler.

This means you can be a lot more creative and make your own flower arrangements more personal. Do not be intimidated at the thought of making your own flower arrangements. You will be surprised at how well they turn out. You just have to have the courage to try.

The bridesmaid and bridal bouquets do take a little more skill, but if you are unwilling to have a go at making them, then simply using half a dozen calla lilies can look just as effective as a full waterfall bouquet.

If you do decide to make homemade flower arrangements, it is important to keep the flowers fresh.

To do this, if your wedding is on a Saturday, you will need to pick them up on the Wednesday before from the wholesale flower distributors and keep them in plenty of water.

You will need to make the bouquets on Thursday and then on Friday you just need to spray them to keep them looking their best.

When making the arrangements, it might be fun to get some of your bridesmaids and female relatives to help you set everything up, and it's great for moral support too!

Silk Wedding Flowers

If you're on a budget or simply prefer to plan ahead, an inexpensive option is to arrange for a florist to create your own silk wedding bouquet.

There are some brides who do not like to use real flowers at all and use silk instead. This again can be done using a florist who can do silk wedding flower packages. Even if you do not use silk flowers for everything, they can look very effective on top of a wedding cake or even for your bridesmaids or table decorations.

There's a wide range of realistic flowers that you can choose from in a range of colors. Your florist will help you put together something that works for you - but brides often choose from calla lillies , gerber daisy, hydrangea and finish it off with matching ribbon.

There are many ways that flowers can be used for table centre pieces in your reception. One way is the use of an american floral reef that can incorporate your flower theme, red roses can look especially effective, even more so when combined with a church candle in the center of the reef.

Using silk, it's important to remember that most people are unable to tell the difference, even close up.  It's also one less headache in the week before your wedding day .
